Files and documents for your InDesign projects can originate and be created from any source. We will show you how you can transfer existing InDesign projects quickly and with links to your 4ALLPORTAL.

Checking

  1. Is everything in the right place? First of all, make sure that all files and documents are located in a work folder.

  2. Then, open your document in InDesign and check whether all the links are in order. Faulty links must be restored.

  3. Finally, save your document.

Importing to your 4ALLPORTAL

  1. Then, via network sharing, copy the whole work folder into the desired target directory of the 4ALLPORTAL. After a few moments, the 4ALLPORTAL automatically recognizes new content and indexes it. You can now find the work folder in the 4ALLPORTAL; however, your InDesign document still doesn’t have a preview.

Tidying up

  1. Once you have made sure that your InDesign document and related files are available properly in the 4ALLPORTAL, you must delete the work folder from your local hard drive entirely. Then empty the recycle bin.

This step is necessary so that a preview can subsequently be computed and linked files can be analyzed within the 4ALLPORTAL. Otherwise, InDesign reverts to your local database instead of the 4ALLPORTAL.

Analysis and computation

  1. To finish, perform an analysis and computation using the 4ALLPORTAL InDesign plugin. You’ll find instructions on that here: Analyze InDesign document.

  2. Preview, Detail view and Linked files are now all available in the 4ALLPORTAL.

What linked files are exported?

If files are exported with an InDesign document, this refers to all files that InDesign lists under "links":

  • images / files on layout pages
  • images / files on master pages (also not used ones)
  • images / files that are on the pasteboard
