The Desktop App requires a network drive connection to the "Data" directory of the 4ALLPORTAL.

By configuring the UNC path (Universal Naming Convention), users of the Microsoft Windows operating system (versions 7 + 10) can access the path of the 4ALLPORTAL "Data" directory without having to connect to the network drive via Windows Explorer. The UNC path is only compatible with Windows systems, not with MacOS.
After a user has logged in to the 4ALLPORTAL with the Desktop App, the UNC path is retrieved by the system and the network drive connection is established in the background.

Please note: The network drive connection is not listed in Windows Explorer in the form of a drive letter.

Configuring the UNC path

The UNC path configuration is stored in the corresponding user role. This allows admins to control the use of the UNC path via rights management.

  1. Go to admin snap-in "General system configuration/User settings" and open the role configurations.
  2. Select a role.
  3. Open tab "Role-based module settings".
  4. Click on the module "Files" to open its settings.
  5. Under tab "Feature permissions", scroll down to panel "Desktop App".
  6. In field "UNC path", enter the Windows-compliant path to the "data" directory of your 4ALLPORTAL server.
    Example: \\sample.4allportal.net\data\
  7. In fields "User name" and "Password", enter the server's access data for the network drive share.
  8. Save your configuration.
  9. Start the Desktop App and log in to the system with a user of this role.
  10. The connection to the network drive "Data" is successful when the Desktop App no longer prompts you to connect the network drive.
