The desktop app is a web control for using the 4ALLPORTAL within a separate desktop application. The range of functions is the same as when using the 4ALLPORTAL via the browser.

The added benefit of using the desktop app compared to the web browser is that you can open and process files from 4ALLPORTAL on a desktop PC. For example, users may wish to edit files from the DAM using the Adobe Creative Cloud.

Navigation

The user interface is navigated using the control elements “Page forwards” and “Page backwards”, while the “Startup module” and “Reload page” functions are integrated into the upper menu area of the user interface (see screenshot).

Restrictions

Using the desktop app, you can only open and process files from the main view (tile or list display) from “Module files” on the desktop PC. Other modules are excluded.



Product standard

This feature is a component of the 4ALLPORTAL product standard.

Installation and operation

The desktop app should be installed on the relevant PC for operation.
The active 4ALLPORTAL user can view and download the required installation package and the installation guide in the “Profile” menu on the “Downloads” tab page.

It is not necessary to install a back-end component using “App Management”.

Requirements

To allow data to be exchanged between the desktop app and the desktop PC, you must create a network drive connection to the root directory of the 4ALLPORTAL server (typically “Data”) with read and write privileges.


UNC path: To use the app on a Windows desktop, you can enter a UNC path via role configuration in the Feature authorizations of module files. This allows the connection to the root directory to be established automatically.

User rights

  • No user rights are required for use of the app.
  • Use of the app cannot be withdrawn from users via role configuration. Alternatively, connection with the network drive is not permitted for users in order to prevent them from using functions to open and edit files on the PC.
  • The required read and write privileges for the network drive connection are not determined via 4ALLPORTAL administration, but rather by the 4ALLPORTAL server administration.
  • The connection with the network drive requires additional connection data for the 4ALLPORTAL server (user name + password). One exception may be the use of the Active Directory service within a network.

System requirements

  • Administration rights for the desktop PC
  • network drive connection (read / write) to root directory “Data”

Restrictions

It is not possible to navigate the user interface by means of gesture-based control. Gestures will not be supported in the future.

Customization

Customization options are not planned for the desktop app, nor are they necessary.


Styling-Package

The decision was made to dispense with a logo in the header to ensure optimal positioning of the control elements. This was considered necessary to maximize the user-friendliness of the control elements. For this reason, there is no option to insert specific customer logos in the header – not even through a feature request.
